Professor within the area of work and organizational psychology


One fulltime position as a professor in psychology within the area of work and organization is offered.

The professor we are looking for is expected to conduct own research, build further upon and initiate new research projects and also work actively with applications for external research financing. The research will primarily be within the area of work and organizational psychology and contribute to the general development of the department.

The department currently has a solid base of research projects and educational programs within the area of work and organizational psychology and there are excellent opportunities for further growth.

As a professor, you will be expected to teach and supervise students at all educational levels, to actively participate in the department's activities and to participate in community outreach activities. The position may involve management duties and currently includes internally funded research time. At least 20% of the position consists of teaching at the undergraduate level.
The Department of Psychology is a dynamic and creative work environment located in Umeå and active participation and physical presence is expected at the department.


To be eligible for the position as a professor, candidates must be able to display both research and teaching expertise within the area of work and organizational psychology, in accordance to Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance and the Appointments Procedure for Teachers at Umea University.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor shall be the degree of expertise of the qualifications necessary for the employment will be used. Other assessment criteria to be used are administrative expertise and cooperative skills.

Research expertise refers to independent research initiatives, the capacity to obtain research funds in competition with other researchers, the ability to plan and lead research activities, documented national and international research cooperation, proficiency in publication and the ability to communicate research to society in general. Expertise may also be displayed by leadership of research projects and successful supervision of doctoral students.

Teaching experience refers to a teacher´s work in the classroom and with students, the teacher´s own educational development and contribution to the educational development of the organization. This also includes participation in third-cycle activities, such as doctoral student supervision and participation in the planning and execution of courses and seminars.

Administrative expertise refers to the ability to develop and lead activities and personnel, to interact with society and to provide information on research and development work. Cooperative skills refers to e. g. formulating, planning, leading and contributing to projects that require collaboration, and taking part in joint research projects and other joint activities at the departmental and university level.

Consideration will also be given to experience with interacting within the community, for example through intervention or evaluation research as well as to being a licensed psychologist.

As the position includes administrative duties and educational duties that require the comprehension and use of both Swedish and English, particular consideration will be made for candidates with demonstrated abilities be in communicating in both Swedish and English in speech and writing.

Particular consideration will be taken on personal suitability. 

Grading of assessment criteria

When grading the assessment criteria, research expertise has highest importance. Teaching expertise is also an important criterion. There after, the level of administrative skills and cooperation shall apply.
