Research area

At Umeå University, research in science education and technology education is organized within the research group UmSER (Umeå Science Education Research environment). In UmSER, research projects are conducted in an array of educational areas. The research aims at increasing knowledge about the significance of different workforms, content, context, gender, motivation and attitudes for learning and interest in science.  For more information, see  http://www.nmd.umu.se/english/research/umser/

UmSER is now recruiting 1-2 postdoctoral researchers. When appointing the positions, we prioritize postdoctors who will complement and collaborate with one or more research groups/researchers. Other projects can be accepted if the projects add theoretical or methodological aspects that complement the research within the UmSER environment. Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, you should have completed you PhD degree or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a PhD degree within science education, pedagogy or equivalent subject relevant for the position. Priority should be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline unless special circumstances exists (for example parental leave) .

When evaluating the applicants, particular emphasis will be put on research skills as shown by publications in peer reviewed international journals, and as presented in the project plan submitted. Research experiences within the field of science education or technology education are required. Practical experiences of education, ie teaching and educational development work, are meritorious, as well as experience in managing projects. The ability to collaborate with other researchers is also a requirement. Good knowledge in written and spoken English is required.

Work description

The position is for full-time research, and the post doc is also expected to take active participation in the work within the research environment, e.g., involvement in seminars and workshops, supervision of PhD-students and/or take active part in relevant graduate courses.

The employment is for full-time for two years. Starting date is January 15 2018 or upon agreement.

  • (ii) a project plan describing the research you want to do (maximum 3 pages),
  • (iii) a Curriculum Vitae with a complete publication list,
  • (iv) a Pdf-version or a copy of your PhD thesis and up to of five relevant publications,
  • (v) copies of exam certificates, and
  • (vi) names and contact information of 2 reference persons.
