Project description
We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow (2 years) for a research project examining restoration of streams after timber-floating. The aim of the project is to predict how the result of stream restoration in terms of biodiversity varies within a catchment or landscape and which geomorphological and biological factors can explain this variation. The project is led by Professor Christer Nilsson, whose research interests include landscape ecology, riparian ecology, and stream restoration, and Dr. Lina Polvi Sjöberg, who specializes in fluvial geomorphology and ecological-geomorphic feedbacks. Possible research focuses are how potential geomorphic complexity and landscape-scale controls affect restoration success and how regional land use or plant colonist sources dispersed by air or water determine restoration success. Based on our research results, we will develop a framework for predicting the result of restoration projects within a catchment.

The appointment is full time for two years starting in March 2017 or according to agreement.

Requirements
To be eligible for this position, you will have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in ecology, physical geography, or similar field. Previous research on stream ecosystems is a demand, including experience with field work, botany, GIS analyses (e.g., DEMs and landuse data), and restoration methods. You must have a very good command of written and spoken English. A successful candidate must be able to show documented capabilities of autonomous scientific research work and skills in writing scientific publications and reports in English. You must have a driver’s license for cars.
